Pit Bulls are one of the most stereotyped dogs I have ever seen. They have been accused as a "vicious dog" by thousands of people who have never even met the dog! That is why I was so filled with joy when Cleveland removed the terrible label from the misconceived dog. It is always thee owners fault for an attack. You may disagree, but it is the owners fault for failing to socialize the dog, failing to train the dog, failing to keep the dog on a leash or in a fence. It is also the person the dog attacked who is to blame as well, most people should know to not stick your face in the dog's face (though most idiots still do it). Few people know to not scream, stare the dog in the eyes, run away, e.t.c. I love pit bulls and if one bit me I'd know that it is not their fault.
What do you think when you hear the word Pit Bull? Do you think of a vicious, terrible killer dog? Why do you think of that picture? Did you actually meet a pit bull or are you just going off of what the media tells you? The media portrays the Pit Bull breed as a killer dog that will rip your face off when given the chance. The reason they stereotype the breed SO MUCH is because of the dog is so smart, willing, and strong and in the wrong hands, usually fought for money. People should know to stop believing what the media tells you. Just because one dog bites someone doesn't mean the whole breed is bad. The dog would never attack for no reason also! Stop being ignorant people! This is like blaming a race for being vicious for what a couple people did. Pit Bulls are not all vicious! They won't rip your face off for no reason! I have a list of myths and stereotypes about Pitts:
Myths & Stereotypes: Pit BullsMyth: Pit Bulls have an enzyme in there body which makes them more prone to attack.
Fact: No, just like any other dog, With the right training, Pit Bulls can be loving animals.
Myth: Pit Bulls can lock their jaws.
Fact: NO! Pit Bulls are just like any other dog, they have no physical feature that allows them to lock their jaw.
Myth: Pit Bulls feel no pain.
Fact: Like any other dog, Pit Bulls CAN feel pain, there nervous system is built like a Golden Retriever for example. Yet, the myth is believed because many Pitts can be stubborn and in dog fights may appear to have no pain towards a bite.
Myth: A Pit Bull's brain grows too big for its skull, causing it to go insane.
Fact: Also been accused with Dobermans, in both cases proved totally untrue, and unfounded.
Myth: Pit Bulls attack for no reason.
Fact: NO! Many people believe that pit bulls are inherently aggressive and attack their owners and other people. FALSE. Pit bulls, like any other dogs, do not exhibit aggressive behavior without reason or provocation. If a dog reacts aggressively, it is usually the result of:
- disease
- improper handling
- lack of socialization or training
- misreading the dog''s behavior.
Facts on the Breed
- Pit bulls actually make great pets for families. Tests done by the American Temperament Test Society, pit bulls were generally less aggressive when faced with confrontational situations.
- Early in the 20th century, pit bulls were actually the number one family dog.
- Dog fighters use pit bulls breeds because they are strong, and have a desire to please their owners. Unfortunately, pit bulls'' abuse in this circumstance contributes to the negative myths surrounding them.
- Pit bulls can be loving animals even if they were trained "animal aggressive"
- Have been known to be therapy dogs because of their friendly disposition and ability to remain calm.
Face it, Pit Bulls are stereotyped and most people are too ignorant to actually experience the good part of the breed. The dog breed most likely to bite was not the Pit Bull, Rottweiler, or German Shepherd, but …wait for it…the Dachshund. And second was the Chihuahua, followed by the Jack Russell Terrier.
ANY dog that bites though, always has a reason, and that peoples' problem. They accuse the Pitt for attacking a child for no reason or an adult for no reason.

If you disagree with any of this, please comment... Treat a dog as an individual, don't blame the whole breed.
"Pit bulls are famous, in circles of knowledgeable dog people, for the love and loyalty they bestow on anyone who shows them a smidgen of kindness." -- Linda Wilson-Fuoco

Great information Abby. And seriously impressive writing. I am so proud of you for your proper verbiage and use of grammar. This is awesome. Thank you for all of the information - even with Sibyl getting mauled by the pit bull we never blamed the dog, you are correct - it is the owner failing to properly train the dog.
ReplyDeleteThank you So much Sissy! Sorry about Sibyl, though even if the neighbor was the nicest person in the world, it was his fault for failing to watch his Pitts <3 Love you, I love Pit Bulls too! I went on that walk with Spargi like I told you and we met that one Pitt and he was SO SWEET!
ReplyDeleteYea, I did ALOT of research on it and watched videos on it and stuff..took me a while.
